Lizzy Payne Fountain is Ms. Atlanta Eagle 2013 while Tank Teachworth is the 2013 Mr. Atlanta Eagle after the bar's annual contest was held Saturday, April 13, as part of Atlanta Leather Pride. Four men competed for Mr. Atlanta Eagle and Fountain competed solo but still had to score high enough with judges to win the title. Those competing for the title had to compete in bar wear, play wear, fetish wear and a Q&A. More than 100 people watched the event and witnessed Mr. Atlanta Eagle 2012, Jeff Donaldson, propose to his partner James Menge before the winners were announced. Menge said yes. Big Freedia, the Queen Diva of New Orleans' bounce rapping scene, visited Atlanta on Jan. 21, 2013, for a thumping good time at the Earl in East Atlanta. Before she took the stage for her set, she led a dance class to early arrivers, showing them the finer points of wobbling, gyrating and popping their asses. Big Freedia is also know for her role on bringing Sissy Bounce to mainstream audiences. As a person who appears masculine but identifies with a female pronoun, Big Freedia is also a foremother of the Sissy Bounce scene that appeals to queers and gender nonconforming audiences. "Tall Tales and Real Man Adventures" starring author T Cooper, performance artist Scott Turner Schofield and singer Amy Ray was held at the Star Bar on Dec. 15 as a fundraiser for Charis Circle, the nonprofit arm of Charis Books & More. The bar in Little Five Points was packed as T Cooper read from his new book "Real Man Adventures" with Schofield and Ray helping out with a few pieces. Schofield shared a monologue here and there while also interviewing Cooper and Ray. Ray closed out the show with a short set of some of her solo classics and new songs from an upcoming country music album. To sum it up — it was an amazing night of art and fun. Dan Lax, playing the keyboards, hosted his annual holiday sing-along at Blake's on Wednesday, Dec. 12. Dozens of people gathered, many from the Atlanta Gay Men's Chorus, to sing such traditional tunes as "Silent Night," "Jingle Bells," and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." The official closing party of Atlanta Pride was was organized by Chris Coleman Enterprises and held Sunday, Oct. 14, at Opera, with DJ Hector Fonseca and DJ Theresa spinning together for those continuing to party into the wee hours of the morning, not wanting their Pride weekend to end.
