PFLAG Atlanta had a packed house at Lambert Place on June 23 when it held its "Out with the Stars" dinner, fundraiser and a night to honor several people in the community. Receiving the Outstanding Work as a Parent award went to Pattie and Jeff Ellis, who created www.familyacceptance.com after their son, Adam, came out to them. The website is still used by parents today who are learning their children are gay and looking for resources and understanding. Also honored was Em Elliott of Georgia Equality and the Georgia Safe Schools Coalition with the Outstanding Work as an Educator Award; Abby Drue and The Ben Marion Institute for Social Justice for Outstanding Work as a Nonprofit; Jessica Maslanka, an organizer with JustUsATL who was successful in creating the first Gay Straight Alliance at her high school in Monroe. Receiving a special PFLAG Achievement Award for their hard work for many years with PFLAG were Dale and Mary Lynn Myrkle. (Photos by Dyana Bagby)
