Ria Pell, the owner and chef of Atlanta favorites Ria's Bluebird and Sauced, invited hundreds of friends as well as other chefs who dished out their own feasts for a "Chopped" watch party on Nov. 20 held at Sauced. The party became a victory celebration as Pell survived the chopping block and was named "Chopped" champion and the winner of the $10,000 grand prize. With a big screen set up outside, people watched Pell and other chefs compete in the Food Network's cooking reality show that introduces "mystery" items in a basket. What did Pell's have to cook with? From the episode's description: "Ostrich tenderloin appetizers are on the menu for the judges after a dramatic first round of cooking. And then, for creativity's sake, the chefs must work hard to make terrific entrees with sable fish and sake. When one of the final competitors uses a rolling pin to compress hot dog buns, the judges wonder what kind of dessert they will get." Pell thanked the support of the Atlanta community as the DJ played "We Are the Champions" after hugs and cheers erupted when Pell was named the winner. Pell also treated everyone to a champagne toast. If you missed the show on Nov. 20, it will be replayed on Nov. 27 at 8 p.m. (Photos by Dyana Bagby)
