Still finding inspiration in words of Martin Luther King Jr.

Re: “As today marks 25 years of the MLK Jr. National Holiday, what is your favorite quote from Dr. King?” (Facebook.com/TheGAVoice Jan. 17)

“We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”

“The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”

“Now, I say to you today my friends, even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’”

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

“A right delayed is a right denied.”

“Let no man pull you low enough to hate him.”

“Nothing pains some people more than having to think.”

“If there is any one thing that we must see today is that these are revolutionary times. All over the globe men are revolting against old systems of exploitation and oppression, and out of the wounds of a frail world, new systems of justice and equality are being born. The shirtless and barefoot people of the land are rising up as never before.”

Chick-fil-A won’t care if gays don’t ‘eat mor chikin’

Re: “GA Equality calls for action against Chick-fil-A anti-gay donations” (Jan. 13)

"What do you think the chances of this working are, given that Chick-fil-A is an overtly Christian company not open on “the Lord’s Day,” and helmed by 95 percent white Christian men, probably 100 percent claiming to be straight as well?"

"So is Truett Cathy going to donate free Chick-fil-A for this year’s Pride attendees? If this company honored all people, it would honor all marriages and all families, especially ours."

"I would like to give Chick-fil-A the benefit of the doubt. If they donate food to GLBTQ causes, Dan Cathy is being truthful. If Chick-fil-A refuses to make the same type of food donation to a GLBTQ cause, time to call BS on the company and start the boycott."

Frustration as gay marriage case sent back to Calif. Supreme Court

Re: “Federal appeals panel wants ruling on who can fight for Prop 8” (Jan. 7)

"Prop 8 is a hateful piece of legislation. I hope to someday the Defense of Marriage Act declared unconstitutional as well."

"Why are we fighting to get government to recognize our marriages? What the government can give the government can take away. We need to change the debate to get government out of marriage! That is how true equality will form. The only way to put people above or below others is through the force of the government. Let’s take that power away from them and take back our freedom to choose without government’s permission."

"We’re so sorry, Rosa Parks, but our judges are very busy right now, so you and your constitutional rights must return to the back of the bus..."
