“Like many of you, I was always a friend of the gays ... and then liberals come around with some idea that no one has thought of for a thousand years: gay marriage. ... The left is trying to co-op gays and I don’t think we should let them. They should be on our side. We’re for low taxes, we’re for low crime, we’re against the terrorists that want to kill gays. Gays are natural conservatives.” — Conservative pundit Ann Coulter, who last year headlined a gay conservative conference called Homocon but opposes gay marriage and gays in the military, speaking Feb. 12 at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington. (On Top Magazine, Feb. 13) “If you want to drop your pants, drop ‘em, dog. I got your back.” — Jimmy McMillan, who gained notoriety as leader of the Rent Is Too Damn High Party, when asked about “personal liberties” at CPAC, where he stopped by the gay GOProud booth to say he supports gay marriage and personal privacy “because I get freaky in my bedroom.” McMillan plans to run for president in 2012. (CBS News via Autostraddle.com, Feb. 13) “I guess that if you are a Guatemalan gay man who likes to gamble and smokes marijuana, you probably think we’re onto some good ideas here.” — Rhode Island House Minority Leader Robert A. Watson, a Republican, complaining that the state legislature is too fixated on gay marriage, immigration, gambling and medical marijuana, instead of finances. Some immigrant groups complained. (On Top Magazine, Feb. 13) "I live in New York. New York is a place with lots of gays, and I think it is great. But I’m not in favor of gay marriage.” — Business mogul Donald Trump, who is considering running for president in 2012, in an interview with Greta Van Susteren’s “On the Record” (USA Today, Feb. 15) “He’d say weird things like, ‘You’re very sick, so you need to go and buy a cow then we’ll transport your spirit into the cow.’ But I said, ‘You’ll end up with a gay cow.’” — Openly gay BBC Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills, explaining what happened when he saw a Ugandan witch doctor who tried to cure his homosexuality, as part of the BBC documentary on Uganda, “The World’s Worst Place to Be Gay?” (The Sun, Feb. 13)
