Memorial planned for Lisa Lawson as McDonough police remain mum

A memorial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 14, at Mount Ephraim Church for Lisa Lawson, a 40-year old lesbian who was found deceased last week in McDonough, Ga., after she had been missing since mid-November.

Mount Ephraim Church is located at 1202 W Marietta St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30318. Lawson’s girlfriend, Michelle Alexander, posted information about the service on the “Find Lisa Lawson” Facebook page she created while Lawson was missing.

Lawson was found Tuesday, Dec. 4, in her vehicle within the city limits of McDonough, according to the Clayton County Police Department.

Requests for more information from the McDonough Police Department, which is responsible for the investigation into her death, have gone unanswered.

McDonough Police Chief Preston Dorsey is on an extended vacation to celebrate his honeymoon, according to the department. No one at the department is authorized to talk to the media without prior approval from the chief.

Dorsey has refused comment on the case but stated the cause of death was suicide in an email this afternoon to GA Voice. "We do not make any comments on suicides," Dorsey said.

Henry County Coroner Donald Cleveland, who performed the autopsy, is withholding comment and deferred GA Voice to McDonough's police department.

Alexander has also been mostly silent since news of Lawson’s death although she gave a brief statement to GA Voice last week.

"I am tremendously grateful for the community in the way they came together to help find Lisa. No matter what, we support one another," Alexander said then.

Alexander and Lawson had been together for around five months, Alexander told GA Voice in another interview before Lawson was found.

Lawson's disappearance prompted Alexander to create a media campaign to help find her girlfriend. The website, www.findlisalawson.com, and an accompanying video on YouTube helped spread the story of Lawson's disappearance.
