Georgia House Democrats, including openly lesbian Reps. Keisha Waites (D-Atlanta) and Simone Bell (D-Atlanta), held a public forum today to discuss six pieces of proposed legislation focused on education.
The proposed bills, four of which have already been filed during the current legislative session, include The Restore & Build HOPE Act, the Anti-Discrimination Act, the Education Transparency Act, the Parent Protection Act, the Drop-Out Deterrent Act and the End Cyber-Bullying Act.
The Anti-Discrimination Act, which has not yet been finalized, would ensure that private schools that receive funding from Schools Scholarship Organizations could not use public funds towards discriminating against students based on race, religion, national origin, sexuality or disability.

Tonya Miller of Atlanta, 48, was convicted last week for killing her former girlfriend in 2005, according to a report in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Miller received a life sentence plus 10 years for murdering Cheryl Miranda of Tampa, Fla. She was convicted on charges of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and concealing a death. The verdict was handed down Friday. She was first convicted of the murder in 2008 but the Georgia Supreme Court overturned the ruling which led to a second trial.

In case you didn't get enough sordid details about New Birth Pastor Eddie Long's alleged affairs with young men from the legal cases filed against him, it looks like the tell-all book from accuser Centino Kemp will soon be available.
On Feb. 1, Kemp posted a photo of the cover of the book, titled "First Lady," on his Twitter account (@Centino Kemp). "Feels like I give birth to a baby," Kemp declared.
The book comes out on Valentine's Day, Kemp has tweeted.

Matt Rinker believes the Atlanta City Council can do better when it comes to stopping crime in neighborhoods and he believes District 5 incumbent Natalyn Archibong is not doing her job.
That's why he wants it.
Rinker, 35, who described his job as a real estate professional, announced formally Feb. 5 his bid for the seat in the upcoming November election. Rinker is gay and this is his first run for political office. District 5 includes East Lake, Cabbagetown, Kirkwood, Reynoldstown, Edgewood and East Atlanta where gay bars Mary's and My Sister's Room are located.

LGBT alumni and students at Atlanta’s Emory University won’t back down from their call to kick Chick-fil-A out of campus dining, despite a national gay activist’s revelation that he has formed a friendship with Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy.
Shane Windmeyer, executive director of national group Campus Pride, drew headlines with his Jan. 28 column posted on Huffington Post, “Dan and Me: My Coming Out as a Friend of Dan Cathy and Chick-fil-A.”
Windmeyer wrote that “after months of personal phone calls, text messages and in-person meetings,” including attending the Chick-fil-A bowl with Cathy on New Year’s Eve in Atlanta, he now considers Cathy a friend.
