Creative Loafing is reporting that Poster Hut, in business for 44 years and catering to a large gay clientele, is closing Thursday. CL reporter Gwynned Stuart called Poster Hut on Cheshire Bridge Road to see if it was indeed closing on Thursday. The employee who answered the phone told her he "thinks so." The GA Voice also called and was told the owner would be in the store later this afternoon. The employee who answered the phone said the store is closing for sure and there is a going out of business sale going on now. But, he added, he did not know anything about the store closing tomorrow. "I know we're going out of business, but I don't know when," the employee said. A description of Poster Hut, courtesy of Myspace: The Poster Hut is an Atlanta institution. Located in the dynamic Cheshire Bridge Road area of Midtown, we have had the honor of serving the Atlanta community for over 40 years, offering the most extensive selection in the Southeast for all your personal and gift-giving needs. The Poster Hut started in 1967 as THE place to get music, movie and art posters. In 1974, the owner financed and sold the company to Gary Goldberg, a longtime employee. Since then, Poster Hut has become an Atlanta landmark, catering to more than the avid poster collector. The Poster Hut has grown to include a renowned card section perfect for any occasion, adult items, music, novelty items, paraphernelia, housewares, jewelry, Bachelor and Bachelorette party items and a clothing department encompassing only the trendiest in underwear, outerwear, leather and fetish wear. In November 2007, managers Mike Abbott and Kenneth Moon decided to become joining partners and purchase The Poster Hut from Mr. Goldberg. Combining over 20 years of retail sales experience, they are working hard to keep The Poster Hut the Atlanta icon it has been for decades. Come in to meet the friendly, knowledgable new staff and see for yourself why people have been coming back for generations. The Poster Hut, Inc. ...A Unique Boutique.
