The Atlanta LGBT Police Advisory Board will meet on Monday, Aug. 22, at Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse to discuss its recent meetings with Mayor Kasim Reed and Chief George Turner about punishments handed down during the raid on the Atlanta Eagle. Board members met with Mayor Reed and Chief Turner to discuss why harsher punishments were not handed down to more officers involved in the Eagle raid in 2009 despite two scathing investigations by the APD's Office of Professional Standards and an independent investigation by high-profile law firm Greenberg Traurig. Turner told board members that there was not enough solid evidence to fire more officers because the reports cited only circumstantial evidence in instances where officers were accused of deleting cell phone data that may have included information about the Sept. 10, 2009, raid. The investigations were mandated as part of the city's more than $1 million settlement with patrons of the bar who alleged their civil rights were violated.
