Police release sketch of possible suspect in killing of Atlanta Black Gay Pride attendees

The Atlanta Police Department released late today a sketch of a potential suspect in the killing of Black Gay Pride attendees.

The victims, Calvin Streater and Samuel Blizzard, were shot execution style in an apartment at the Station at Richmond Hill, a gated complex, on Sept. 5, 2010.

Blizzard, 21, was a student at Georgia State University and originally from Spring Cove, Va. Streater, 26, was from Atlanta.

Carlos Campos, manager of public affairs for the APD, told the Georgia Voice when the crime happened that LGBT liaison Patricia Powell was informed of the incident and because of the egregiousness of the crime she also went to the scene. The APD's standard procedure is to only inform the LGBT liaison of any potential bias crime.

"We have learned in fact they attended some Black Gay Pride activity that day," Campos said at the time of the crime. There is no overt evidence the shooting deaths had anything to do with the fact the men were at a gay event, he added.

Police said at the time the victims may have known their killer because there was no sign of forced entry.

According to the APD, the man in the sketch was seen with the two victims the day they were killed. Crime Stoppers is offering up to $2,000 reward in information leading to an arrest and callers can remain anonymous. Call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477 or the APD Homicide Unit at 404-546-4235 with information about this case.
