In 2010, we filmed and edited almost a hundred videos of local activists, nightlife revelers and community leaders speaking out on LGBT issues. Here are our five favorites, as selected by the staff.
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed issues a statement on the federal lawsuit settlement between patrons of the Atlanta Eagle and the city of Atlanta. Reed apologized to the patrons, who were illegally detained, searched and the victims of anti-gay slurs during the 2009 raid of the Atlanta Eagle. The notoriously anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church protested Atlanta's Grady High School on May 6, 2010. Students from Grady High School initiated a counter-protest, where several hundred students lead by Acceptance, Tolerance & Love organizer Becca Daniels, countered the anti-gay protesters. Atlanta's Rev. Bradley Schmeling and his partner, Rev. Darin Easler, were reinstated to the clergy roster of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America after they were removed for being in a same-sex relationship. Schmeling and Easler discussed the events leading up to their reinstatement and what they've learned from the experience. Full story here: Atlanta gay pastors back on Lutheran clergy roster
Civil Rights activist and former NAACP Chairman Julian Bond gives his thoughts on the sexual coercion allegations against Bishop Eddie Long and talks about why he didn't attend funeral of Coretta Scott King, held at Long's New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. Tea Party protesters rallied at the Georgia capitol on tax day 2010. Georgia Voice was on hand to discuss gay marriage with several of the attendees. (This was my personal favorite to film for many reasons - Ryan). Full story here: Tea Party protesters sound off on gay marriage BONUS
Though not specifically one of the most meaningful videos we shot during 2010, our interview with "The A List: New York" star Reichen Lehmkuhl has received (by far) the most views on YouTube of any video we put together in the last year. Lehmkuhl discusses being on the reality show at the Out on Film festival on October 2, 2010. Full story here: A new kind of housewife
