A gas main break closed the intersection of Piedmont and Monroe today but all lanes are now open. The intersection was closed off by four Atlanta Fire Department fire engines, two fire trucks and two battalions from 10:48 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., said fire department spokesperson Capt. J.L. Bunrige.
Tami Gerke of Atlanta Gas Light said that a four inch gas line was cut by a contractor working in the area. The gas has been turned off and continues to be off at this time, she said. Check back at www.thegavoice.com for more information as it becomes available.
