Why Georgia needs a Hate Crimes law
by Michael J. Brewer
Thursday, 02 September 2010 15:17

As I sat to write, the City of Atlanta is gearing up for a busy weekend of queer activity. The headlining event of Labor Day weekend, Atlanta’s Annual Black Gay Pride celebration, is sure to attract tens of thousands of the “Children” to what is considered the largest Black pride festival in the world.

Throw on top of that a joint Georgia Equality/HRC sponsored protest and picket of local Target and Best Buy retail stores taking place on Saturday, bringing awareness to their recent flush donations to support a Minnesota gubernatorial candidate running on an anti-gay platform, and the fact that many will be toasting the end of summer in style during the ensuing three-day weekend, and it seems like every queer in the metro area will have something do.

'DADT' Impact: Letter from Lee Quillian
by Servicemembers Legal Defense Network
Wednesday, 25 August 2010 08:36

With the Pentagon’s family survey now in the field, Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN), a national, legal services and policy organization dedicated to ending "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT), will release a letter each day this week from family members and spouses of former service members impacted by DADT. As the Pentagon reaches out to 150,000 straight couples on how their lives are impacted, these letters will share the perspective of those forced to serve under this law alongside their loved ones. SLDN is urging supporters of repeal to call, write, and schedule in-district meetings with both their senators as the defense budget, which contains the repeal amendment, moves to the floor just weeks from now. www.sldn.org/action.

Ann Coulter disses World Net Daily on Fox’s ‘Red Eye’
by Ryan Watkins
Monday, 23 August 2010 11:40

Conservative writer and talking-head Ann Coulter responded to being dropped from media outlet World Net Daily’s “Taking Back America Conference” in comments on Fox News this weekend.

Coulter, one of several high-profile conservatives who voiced some kind of support for LGBT issues or LGBT organizations in recent weeks, is scheduled to speak at Homocon, a conservative conference sponsored by GOProud, a national gay Republican group.

“I’m sorry, I did not prepare for this discussion. I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Coulter said initially.
