Thousands of people flocked to the clubs, events, Piedmont Park and parties over Labor Day weekend to celebrate Atlanta’s Black Gay Pride, considered the largest in the nation.
The weekend started with a candlelight vigil sponsored by In the Life Atlanta, the sponsor of Black Gay Pride for the past 14 years. See a photo album of that event here.
There were community events such as the State of Black Gay America summit, sponsored by Xtreme Entertainment with keynote speaker Sharon Lettman, executive director of the National Black Justice Coalition, a national group focused on African-Americans and LGBT issues. A photo album from this event can be seen here.

The yearly celebration of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror that is Dragon*Con commences this weekend as 30,000 dedicated fans converge to celebrate their shared passions.
One of the largest conventions of its kind, Dragon*Con is a weekend where fans can don costumes, play complicated board games and see and hear their favorite actors and writers. The convention plays out between four Atlanta hotels — the Hyatt Regency, Marriott Marquis, Hilton Atlanta, and the Sheraton Atlanta — over the Labor Day weekend.

As I sat to write, the City of Atlanta is gearing up for a busy weekend of queer activity. The headlining event of Labor Day weekend, Atlanta’s Annual Black Gay Pride celebration, is sure to attract tens of thousands of the “Children” to what is considered the largest Black pride festival in the world.
Throw on top of that a joint Georgia Equality/HRC sponsored protest and picket of local Target and Best Buy retail stores taking place on Saturday, bringing awareness to their recent flush donations to support a Minnesota gubernatorial candidate running on an anti-gay platform, and the fact that many will be toasting the end of summer in style during the ensuing three-day weekend, and it seems like every queer in the metro area will have something do.
