Three gay-inclusive Atlanta-area softball leagues will soon kick off their fall seasons and all are currently pre-registering players.
The Decatur Women’s Sports League will play on two fields on Fridays this fall due to league expansion. Twelve teams will each compete at two different fields, Blackburn Park and Kelly Cofer Park, Friday evenings from Sept. 3 through Oct. 26.
Teams will be selected based on skill level and distance from the two playing fields.
Coaches from the DWSL will be on-hand at Savage Pizza (115 Laredo Drive, Avondale Estates, Ga. 30002) for registration Friday, Aug. 3 at 6:30 p.m. To register, visit www.decaturwomensports.com

A coach for the Atlanta Rainbow Trout, the city's gay-friendly swim team, is hoping her backstroke is flawless in the coming days as she competes for a spot on the USA Swimming team and a chance to compete in the Olympics in London.
Heidi Hatteberg, who is straight, is making her second attempt at a spot on the USA swim team during swimming trials being held through July 2 in Omaha, Nebraska. Hatteberg is a Georgia Tech alum and the newest coach for the Atlanta Rainbow Trout, according to a press release from the Trout.

The Atlanta Braves will host the team’s second annual “Out in the Stands” LGBT fan night on June 27. The game is a Wednesday night clash against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Proceeds from special tickets will benefit the StandUp Foundation, an anti-bullying advocacy organization founded by English rugby star Ben Cohen. Based in Atlanta, the StandUp Foundation works to raise awareness of bullying, with an emphasis on gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth. It is also dedicated to decreasing homophobia in sports.
Tickets to the game range are available in several packages. The upper box package is $20 and includes one drink ticket at the pre-game patio party. Outfield tickets go for $35 and include two drink tickets. VIP tickets are $200 and include two drink tickets and a meet-and-greet with Cohen in a catered party suite. A portion of every ticket sale, regardless of cost, includes a donation to the StandUp Foundation.

Hotlanta Atlanta Softball hosts its annual Big Peach tournament over Memorial Day weekend with a record-setting roster of 47 teams registered to compete for the championship. Tournament play begins at 8 a.m. each day until the queens of the diamond leave the others in their dust.
The annual tournament brings hundreds of players from across the U.S. to compete but also have a great time socializing and partying together.
