Party with Impact

Heavy hors d'oeuvres, wine and fabulous fundraising are on the menu for this year's "Party with Impact," a benefit for the Atlanta HIV/AIDS services organization Positive Impact.

The cocktail party, this year hosted on April 26 at the historic Wimbish House on Peachtree Street, is the annual signature fundraiser for the organization.

Positive Impact's mission is to provide culturally competent mental health counseling, licensed intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment and risk reduction services to those affected by HIV.

Positive Impact Director of Advancement Michael Baker says last year's event, hosted at the home of Randy New and Russell Tippins, saw about 75 guests and raised just over $16,000. Expecting between 80 and 100 folks this year, the event is slated for growth in its new location.

"Randy and Russell gave us a wonderful venue and helped ensure that the night was a complete success," Baker says. "This year, we wanted to go back to a non-residential setting, but not lose that sense of intimacy, which is why the Wimbish House is perfect."

Built in 1906 as a private residence for Atlanta attorney William A. Wimbish and his family, the Victorian-era home is maintained by the Atlanta Women's Club and is designated a national, state and city landmark.

Guests who purchase $50 general admission tickets should expect heavy hors d'oeuvres and a complimentary wine bar. $150 VIP ticket holders ($250 a couple) enjoy an extra hour to party and access to a private VIP lounge featuring an upgraded bar.

Baker suggests "festive attire."

"I would say anything from black-tie to cocktail dresses and business attire," he adds. "We've had everything from leather pants to a tuxedo in the same night … don't stress too much, because you'll want to relax with a glass of wine or champagne and have a good time at the event."

Positive Impact began in 1993 by offering low cost mental health counseling to people with HIV/AIDS. The organization has since grown to include substance abuse treatment, psychiatry and risk reduction through their MISTER Center.

"All of these programs work in a wrap-around fashion to help HIV-affected people live happier, more fulfilled lives," Baker says.

Positive Impact moved to a new location on 11th Street in Midtown last October, and according to Baker, is unique to the Atlanta AIDS service community, in that "no other agency provides these selections of programs in a stand alone facility."

"We're very proud of the work that we do for the Atlanta community," he says, "and we have appreciated the support our community has given us."

Tickets to the Party with Impact fundraiser can be purchased here.
