 Atlanta Freedom Bands

Seven members from the Atlanta Freedom Bands will head to Washington, D.C., next month to march alongside members of the Lesbian & Gay Band Association in the 57th Presidential Inaugural Parade, held to commemorate President Barack Obama's swearing-in ceremony.

Two of Atlanta Freedom Bands' marchers will be section leaders, group President Cliff Norris said.

More than 30 different gay and lesbian music organizations will send marchers to the parade from cities across the country. The combined band will number around 230 participants.

'Legitimate rape' lawmaker attempts to thwart military gays
by Ryan Watkins

Todd Akin

I just looked outside. The sky is not falling. And if you don't subscribe to the notion that the Mayans predicted the end of the world on Dec. 21, things appear to be chugging right along as they always have.

But if you asked outgoing U.S. Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.), the recent repeal of the military's “Don't Ask, Don't Tell” policy, in addition to recent marriage victories achieved in the last election, prove the world is surely in its last days.

You remember Akin. He's the guy that tried to justify his position on abortion by saying that women who are legitimately raped have a way of shutting down their body to prevent pregnancy. That statement caused him to lose any credibility in his race for U.S. Senate against incumbent Claire McCaskill.

Westboro Baptist Church pisses off hackers with mass-shooting response

Anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church protests Grady High School

The gay-haters at Westboro Baptist Church are continuing their mission of pissing off everyone in America by announcing their intention to picket Sandy Hook Elementary School following the mass shooting in Newtown, Ct. that killed 26 people, including 20 students.

Westboro has regularly protested the funerals of slain American soldiers and has picketed concerts, churches, synagogues and even Atlanta’s Grady High School in “demonstrations opposing the fag lifestyle of soul-damning, nation-destroying filth,” according to the group's website.

In a video titled “God Sent the Shooter” released on one of its websites over the weekend, Westboro celebrates the shooting and cites God's hatred of homosexuality as one of the (many) reasons for the tragedy.

LGBT resort Maui Sunseeker featured on tonight's 'Hotel Impossible'
by Ryan Watkins

Maui Sunseeker Resort

Anthony Melchiorri, host of the Travel Channel's “Hotel Impossible,” recently traveled to Hawaii to help save the island state's largest gay-owned and operated resort, the Maui Sunseeker.

Chuck Spence, owner of the resort, worked with Melchiorri and designer Blanche Garcia on creating a marketing strategy as well as renovations.

“It was eye opening for all involved in this show, for us from a business perspective and for the cast when they discovered the clothing optional hot tub,” Spence said of the experience.
