Leaders from Emory University’s LGBT student organizations and the Greek community came together Tuesday to discuss recent allegations of a student who claimed to have been forcibly removed from an off-campus gathering held by members of the Sigma Nu fraternity.
The unnamed student was involved in an altercation with Emory alum Adam Smith and claimed to have been dragged out of the party by his neck amid anti-gay slurs from other attendees of the party.
The story drew strong reaction from national media outlets and university student groups.

U.S. Rep. John Lewis, who represents Georgia's Fifth Congressional District, can fairly be described as a civil rights icon. A veteran of the African-American Civil Rights Movement, Lewis is now an outspoken advocate for the rights of others, including lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people.
Perhaps that's why Fenn Little, the Republican who hopes to unseat the longterm Democratic congressman on Nov. 2, takes pains on his campaign website to also describe himself as a "civil rights attorney."
Unfortunately, it seems Little and Lewis wouldn't exactly agree on what that means.
Little's campaign tagline is "Faith. Freedoms. Fiscal Responsibility," and he cites his religious beliefs among the issues underlying his campaign.

As the holidays near, it is time to plan the family gatherings. If you are the host, a lot of thought, money and stress goes into feeding and entertaining your multi-generational family. How do you keep the kids and the grandparents occupied, day after day? The kids usually win out and everyone ends up at the zoo and latest G rated movie.
There are travel options you ought to consider.
Don’t count out holiday travel as being too costly, complicated or difficult for the grandparents. Hotels, resorts, national parks, cruise lines and trains are all rolling out the red carpet for financially challenged vacationers in this tough holiday season. If you have already made vacation plans and paid full price, consider asking your travel agent to negotiate some amenities.

The Stonewall Bar Association of Georgia will honor the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia and State Rep. Simone Bell on Oct. 28 at the organization’s 16th annual awards dinner.
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed will be the featured keynote speaker at the dinner.

U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson, Georgia Labor Commissioner Mike Thurmond and airline pilot Chuck Donovan participated in a debate Sunday sponsored by the Atlanta Press Club. All three are running for Isakson's U.S. Senate seat.
The debate, the first and only scheduled debate where all three candidates will appear, largely focused on health care and government spending but did address the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy after panelist Meredith Anderson, from Augusta news WRWD-TV, read a question submitted from one of her viewers regarding the policy.
