NOM goes to Washington

The National Organization for Marriage hosted a rally in Washington, D.C., yesterday as part of the “Summer for Marriage Tour 2010.”

The stop in Washington was the group’s final location on its 23-city tour. NOM made a stop in Atlanta on Aug. 7.

The Washington Blade was on-hand to cover the D.C. rally and interviewed  Brian Brown, NOM’s executive director. Brown stressed the group’s mission was to maintain the “core definition” of a union between a man and a woman.

Brown also discussed Judge Vaughn Walker’s ruling against California’s Proposition 8:

“People are upset that at the fact that you have one judge who thinks he has the right to impose his will on the rest of the country, and they want to stand up and do something. Ultimately, I do think the Supreme Court will overturn Walker’s decision. But, if they do not, we are pushing for a U.S. Constitutional amendment that will protect marriage.”

Other speakers at yesterday’s rally include NOM Chairman Maggie Gallagher, Bishop Harry Jackson and Reverend Walter Fauntroy. Dr. Alveda King, who compared gay marriage to genocide at the Atlanta rally, was also listed as a speaker but was unable to attend the rally. She released a statement in lieu of her presence.
