[Video] Check ‘S’ for ‘Stupid’ for Ga. congressman who supports DOMA, gender stereotypes

During a speechp in support of the Defense of Marriage Act on the House floor Tuesday — and before the U.S. Supreme Court hands down its rulings on same-sex marriage — Gingrey said teaching kids at a very young age that girls must be girls and boys must boys and never the twain shall meet is something that needs to be taught in our schools to very young children.

Gingrey is currently running for the Senate for the seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss. God help us if this man somehow gets more power.

In his rambling speech about “traditional values” and, wow, his daughters work but are still there as moms, said let’s get boys and girls in separate classes when they are little so they know they are different and can only do certain things.

From his speech that was picked up by Huffington Post and is now going viral:

You know, maybe part of the problem is we need to go back into the schools at a very early age, maybe at the grade school level, and have a class for the young girls and have a class for the young boys and say, you know, this is what’s important. This is what a father does that is maybe a little different, maybe a little bit better than the talents that a mom has in a certain area. And the same thing for the young girls, that, you know, this is what a mom does, and this is what is important from the standpoint of that union which we call marriage.

And he added this:

Father knows best, and that traditional view we had back in the old days of television is different. It’s changed. And I do understand that. Of my three daughters and one daughter-in-law, they all work. They all work. Some of them full-time, some of them part-time. But they’re still there as moms, and when they come home and take over that responsibility, they need a shared partner. And that partner is that partner for life, and I’m talking about of course the father. And so I really appreciate the opportunity to be with my colleagues tonight and just say that maybe part of the problem is we need to go back into the schools at a very early age, maybe at the grade school level and have a class for the young girls and have a class for the young boys and say: This is what’s important. This is what a father does that’s maybe a little different, maybe a little bit better than the talents a mom has in a certain area. And same thing for the young girls, that this is what a mom does and this is what’s important from the standpoint of that union, which we call marriage.

Gingrey’s spokesperson “clarified” his remarks to the AJC (although they seem pretty clear to me):

“Phil is a strong supporter of traditional marriage and believes strong male and female role models are essential in a child’s development. Phil was speaking theoretically to emphasize his point that kids learn different things from their mothers and fathers.”

Gingrey is also the guy who agreed with his colleague Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) that, yes, a woman’s body “shuts down” when she’s being raped so there’s no way she can get pregnant. He might want to talk to Michelle Knight and Amanda Berry about that.

Personally, I’m getting tired of old, white, straight men who are in charge of making laws and setting policies for this country continuing to degrade women with their words. I mean, have you heard about this guy?

Is there some kind of adrenaline that I can get to course through my veins to stop me from being so irritated? No. And thank goodness for that.
