My kid owns three stuffed Elmo dolls. She has a little guitar that plays the theme song from “Elmo's World.” Books, diapers, clothes ... the whole lot. Elmo had a renewed presence in my life since I became a dad. So, I've taken an interest in the story of Kevin Clash's alleged sexual relationship with a then-16-year old male. Last week the man, now 23, recanted his accusation after it was reported he took a six-figure settlement. Great, story's over, right? I don't have to the throw away all of the Elmo memorabilia in my house. What a relief. Well, not so fast. Today, entertainment gossip website TMZ reports that the accuser is one again claiming the relationship occurred when he was a minor. From TMZ's website:
While the accusations are serious, I'm going to hold off on throwing away or donating everything Elmo from my house. Elmo isn't Clash. No one's accused Elmo of anything. He's a puppet. And he's helping my daughter learn to read. That, in my mind, transcends any accusation. But something tells me this story is far from finished.
