CNN's weekend anchor Don Lemon says not all gay people want to get married

Don Lemon, the recently out CNN Newsroom weekend news anchor, author of the memoir "Transparent" and Atlanta resident, blogged today about "A New Marriage Dilemma."

Lemon discussed how he was not prepared for the "marriage question" he got at a red carpet affair from a New York Magazine reporter (gay marriage is now legal in New York, y'all). He's been with his partner for four years and people are starting to ask the questions straight people get all the time — "When are you going to tie the knot?"

"Though it wasn't celebrated by larger society, it used to be that gay men once enjoyed that same freedom to play the field. But thanks to our freedom-fighting brethren, not anymore," Lemon wrote on his CNN blog today.

"Don't get me wrong; it's not that I long for the good old days when gay men and women had to hide and lie about themselves and their partners by calling them 'friend' or 'roommate.' Not at all! But as same-sex marriage is becoming legalized in places like New York and beyond, many of us suddenly have to face the reality and the question that many of our straight friends have always faced: 'When are you going to settle down and get married?'"

For Lemon, who acknowledged he "danced around" the question from the persistent New York Magazine reporter, just because gay marriage is legal in several states doesn't mean gay people should now be expected to get married.

"So just as I did when I came out publicly this summer, I'll get ahead of all those 'fishing' for an answer about my marriage plans. While I respect the gay couples who have or are planning on tying the knot soon, the truth is, just like straight people, not all gay people want to or should get married."

What say you all? How can gay people deal with "when are you getting married?" now that gay marriage is legal in several states?
