Hundreds of LGBT persons and their allies gathered in downtown Savannah last weekend for the city’s Pride festival. The Queer Power March was organized by Jesse Morgan and Laura Cahill and was the first LGBT march in Savannah's history. The march was held Friday, Sept. 10, and Pride was held on Saturday, Sept. 11. Among the many speakers at the ‘Queer Power March’ was Derrick Martin, the teen from Cochran, Ga. who was kicked out of his home for taking his boyfriend to his high school prom. Martin has since gone on to create Project LifeVEST, a LGBT advocacy group for teens and young adults. View video of Martin addressing the crowd below:
Several hundred participants gathered in downtown Savannah for the city’s first ‘Queer Power March.’ Groups from Georgia Equality to the Human Rights Campaign were represented in the march. See a video of participants below:
