Atlanta’s women’s professional basketball team, the Atlanta Dream, advanced out of the first round of the WNBA playoffs Friday night after beating the Washington Mystics 101-77.
2010 is the second consecutive year that the Dream have made the playoffs in their three-year history. Friday’s win against the Mystics, however, was the first post-season series victory for the team.

The Atlanta Dream will face off against the Washington Mystics this Wednesday in the opening round of the 2010 WNBA playoffs.
Lead by forward Angel McCoughtry, the Dream finished fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 19-15 regular season record. 2010 marks the second straight year the Dream will contest the post-season.

The photo of two young black men in a casual embrace on what appears to be a MARTA train has stirred up a blogosphere storm as some people take to hating the photo, accusing black men of being on the “down low” and a reason for higher rates of HIV in the African-American demographic.
Huh?
The photo, apparently posted in a tweet by “WatchJ” has been viewed more than 21,000 times. WatchJ is apparently no fan of the gays — he titled the twitpic, “I DON’T GIVE A FUCK HOW SLEEPY YOU ARE” with the hashtag #NoExcuse.
I first saw this photo on a friend’s Facebook page and thought it was a beautiful image of regular life in Atlanta — two young black gay men showing affection toward each other.

Annual fest joins forces with local party promoters to round out nightlife events.
Atlanta Pride’s nightlife lineup continues to take shape as the 40th annual fest nears with two new parties added this year as the Atlanta Pride Committee joins forces with Chris Coleman Enterprises, Curve magazine and Pandora Events and Jungle nightclub to bring new parties this year.

The Atlanta Progressive News will host a town hall meeting tonight at the Spring4th Center in Midtown to discuss the BP oil disaster. The forum will feature six speakers and a question and answer session.
Topics to be covered include government accountability, reducing our dependence on oil and how to take direct action.
