Today, Creative Loafing Atlanta writer Andrew Alexander penned a wonderful opinion piece on Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and his continuing to drag his feet on the issue of same-sex marriage.
After President Barack Obama expressed his opinion that same-sex couples should be given the same rights as heterosexual couples earlier this year, local eyes turned to Reed, arguably the state's most prominent Democrat.
Reed's stance on the issue was the cover story of our May 25 issue (and one of my personal favorites) after local activists created a social media campaign calling on the mayor to “evolve” on the issue.

You frequent and support metro Atlanta gay bars and businesses regularly. You attend nearly all of the fundraisers for LGBT organizations because you believe in their causes — and they're always fabulous.
But sometimes it's OK to travel outside the gay comfort zone and hit the not-so-gay events because, truthfully, just about anything in Atlanta is gay. It's true, we're everywhere.

Athens fundraising drag troupe Boybutante AIDS Foundation, Inc. will host a fall bingo night Thursday to raise money for HIV/AIDS causes in northeast Georgia.
The Melting Point will play host and local personality Miss Thing will call the balls with Ms Sophia Lo’Rent. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the games kicking off at 7:30.
Donated prizes from The Last Resort, City Salon and others will be given away to winners.

When Five Napkin Burger closed less than a year in business at the spot at 10th Street and Piedmont where the gay fave Nickiemotos was once located, speculation arose of what would now go into the new vacant space in the heart of the gayborhood.
Well, tonetoatl.com (Tomorrow's News Today), a real estate blog, is reporting the restaurant 10 is going in the new spot. And according to its owners, it will be a "bistro by day and gay bar by night."
Toneatl.com said a banner making the announcement went up Tuesday, Sept. 25, and two owners were on site but refused to reveal much information.

Lines formed to get into Mary's in East Atlanta on Friday, Aug. 17, for its annual Madonna-Rama bash, a celebration of the birth of the Queen of Pop that had people squeezing, swaying and sweating to decades of Madonna hits and favorites. DJ Diablo Rojo, wearing a special "Hey Mister DJ" t-shirt (that later came off) was manning the tables as he laid down the beats of the queen who has earned her place forever a gay icon.
She's still speaking out on behalf of LGBT equality and making trouble, currently being sued by Russian activists angered and offended she dared to advocate for gay equality during her tour in St. Petersburg.
People packed the bar and sang loudly to Madonna favorites as videos of the pop legend played on screens throughout the bar. Upstairs in the Boozy Cougar, Lourdes "herself" was serving up cocktails for fans of her mother. The party is considered one of Mary's most popular annual parties.
