As a semi-retired member of the drag troupe the Armorettes, Tony Kearney doesn’t don his heels and wigs as frequently as he used to. However, there’s a magic to the Starlight Cabaret that closes Atlanta Pride that makes him rush to his closet to unleash his drag alter ego, Wild Cherry Sucret.
“It’s just, when you look out and there’s a sea of people, and they’re every race, and color, and age,” Kearney said of the Starlight Cabaret, which takes place at 7:05 p.m. on the Coca-Cola stage Oct. 9. “There’s a lot of different kids that come to it who never get to see Atlanta’s drag shows.
“Atlanta used to be like the hub of drag in the country, and it’s kind of different now without the big bars and the big stages,” Kearney added. “It’s an opportunity for a lot of people to shine, and a lot of people come out who normally wouldn’t see them perform.”

With the origins of Pride rooted in a fight for a right to party, there’s no more fitting way to pay homage to Stonewall than a weekend full of blockbuster dances and good times. Atlanta’s clubs and party promoters recognize Pride weekend as the most vibrant of the year, and they’ve gone all out in their attempts to create memorable experiences for revelers.
“It would be a catastrophe for Atlanta not to have huge DJs coming in for Pride,” said promoter Chris Coleman, who has a cadre of heavy-hitting international DJs slated for his parties. “I think Atlanta’s got a lot in store for Pride, and a lot of us are stepping up by bringing the big-name DJs.”
Coleman helps kick-off Atlanta Pride’s festive weekend with a cocktail set at Whiskey Park in the W Midtown on Oct. 6. The “Stride into Pride” party takes place following Atlanta Pride’s commitment ceremony, and features the sounds of DJ Scorpio and $5 drink specials all night.

Traxx Atlanta confirmed Brandy will be performing at Black Gay Pride in a press release today. She will be performing for Traxx Girls at the Georgia Freight Depot and for Traxx Atlanta at the Traxx Club at 1287 Columbia Drive.
