Gay filmmaker Patrik-Ian Polk of “Noah's Arc” and “Punks” fame will release his latest feature “The Skinny” for a special one-week showcase in Atlanta. “The Skinny” centers on a group of four young black gay men and their best lesbian friend who arrange a reunion in New York City a year after graduating from Brown University. Though the film is a comedy, Polk says that serious issues affecting the LGBT community are addressed in the film, including HIV/AIDS, infidelity and date-rape. The film stars Jussie Smolett, Blake Young-Fountain, Anthony Burrell, Shanika Warren-Markland and Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman. The film also features "Noah's Arc" alum Darryl Stephens and Wilson Cruz and includes the film debut of internet maven B. Scott. Polk is also partnering with the Black AIDS Institute to raise awareness in minority communities. “I’ve been involved with the Black AIDS Institute since the early days of my 'Noah's Arc' television series, and I’ve been addressing issues of HIV and AIDS in my work since my first film 'Punks,'” Polk said in a media release. “So, it makes perfect sense to partner with them to promote their great cause and highlight the HIV awareness issues raised in my new film 'The Skinny.'" “The Skinny” will be shown at the Midtown Art Cinema (931 Monroe Drive, Atlanta, GA 30308) today through Friday, April 13 with a meet-and-greet with Polk and members of the cast scheduled for Saturday, April 7, at the Midtown Art Cinema from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Watch the official trailer: Top photo: Patrik-Ian Polk's "The Skinny" (via YouTube)
